Sony PS5 recently unveiled a slimmer and lighter iteration of the PlayStation 5, featuring design enhancements that trim down the console’s bulkiness. This new PS5 Slim boasts redesigned side panels that allow users to attach an external Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive to the digital edition. While Sony hasn’t specified the official release date, it’s expected that both the disc and digital versions of the PS5 Slim will hit the market on November 10, possibly in a bundle with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Surprisingly, there are hints that the PS5 Slim disc edition could come bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, a popular title from Activision.
The cross-gen bundle for Modern Warfare 3, priced at $70 ($5,599 in India), is available on the PlayStation Store, but gamers might be able to acquire it for free as part of the PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle. According to CharlieIntel, a renowned Call of Duty news source, the MW3 PS5 Slim bundle is expected to cost $499, the same price as the disc edition of the PS5 Slim, effectively making the game a complimentary addition to the package.
A purported image from a Call of Duty ad shared by CharlieIntel displays the game bundled with the PS5 Slim disc edition, priced at $499 (approximately Rs. 41,577). While the bundle’s availability in the US is expected, there’s no confirmation of its availability in India. Although PlayStation and Activision haven’t officially announced the bundle, the possibility of Modern Warfare 3 being bundled for free with the PS5 Slim is intriguing. This game is one of the year’s most significant releases, and it’s uncommon for such a prominent title to be bundled for free. However, Sony may be planning to offer the slimmer PS5 at a reduced price along with the next COD release to stimulate holiday season sales.
It’s worth noting that Microsoft recently acquired Activision, the maker of Call of Duty, but Xbox CEO Phil Spencer stated that Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games won’t appear on Xbox Game Pass until the following year. Furthermore, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III isn’t expected to come to Game Pass anytime soon.
The PS5 Slim, set to launch around the same time as MW3 in the US, is also rumored to be available in a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 bundle priced at $559.99 (about Rs. 46,651). This bundle, said to be released on November 8, will include the disc version of the PS5 Slim.
The PS5 Slim has been reduced in size by more than 30% and in weight by 18% and 24% compared to the original PS5 disc and digital editions, respectively. While the PS5 Slim retains its processing power and graphical capabilities, it features slightly increased internal storage, moving from an 825GB custom SSD to 1TB. The disc edition of the redesigned PS5 Slim retains its $499.99 pricing, while the digital edition sees a $50 increase, raising its cost to $449.99, up from $399.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is slated to launch on various platforms on November 10, offering digital edition pre-order customers early access to the campaign mode. They’ll be able to play the main story up to a week before the official release.
