Is this the perfect smartphone? The premiere of the realme GT 5
Looking at the specification of the realme GT 5, we find some gaps compared to the flagship devices already on the market. However, all of these are overshadowed when we learn how much the new model from the Chinese manufacturer costs. It is twice as cheap as the models it can compete with!
The premiere of realme GT 5
Not too long ago, phones from China were associated with low prices but also subpar build quality. Over time, the Chinese have learned that it is worth improving the quality of their devices. The results are evident. Brands like LG, HTC, BlackBerry, and the once-iconic Nokia have virtually disappeared from the market. Only Apple and Samsung continue to withstand the competition from companies such as Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo, and realme. The latter has just introduced another model that demonstrates why so many people are now opting for phones from this brand.
The realme GT 5 is a smartphone equipped with very good components and is excellently crafted.
The realme GT 5’s chassis consists of two panes of glass and an aluminum frame. Today, many other Chinese manufacturers also use a similar design. The latest realme model also boasts a very modern design. The bezels around the large display are minimized to the fullest extent. At the back, there is a significant camera bump. There are also eye-catching color options for the body.
Performance of the realme GT 5, which you can enhance!
The manufacturer has equipped the realme GT 5 with the most powerful components currently available on the market. It features the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with 12 GB up to a whopping 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM (the fastest memory available today). The storage options range from 256 GB to an impressive 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage, making it the most powerful option on the market. In addition to Qualcomm’s integrated Adreno 740 GPU, realme has also added the X7 graphics chip to its flagship model. This combination results in even better image quality and more frames per second. We should remind you that we are talking about additional enhancements designed to accelerate the operation of the most powerful Android processors for smartphones. And there’s more.
Official launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
The realme GT 5 gives users the option to boost its performance. To do so, you need to connect an external cooling system to the smartphone.
This solution is both impressive and somewhat surprising. It’s hard to imagine using the realme GT 5 in daily life connected to an external fan, which you might expect when enabling the ultra-high-performance mode. However, given that many users overclock their computer processors and graphics cards, the latest realme model may appeal to a certain segment of customers. In any case, we are talking about a very high-performance phone that will undoubtedly provide excellent work efficiency for many years. You can run all mobile games and even the most demanding applications on it.
A battery with very fast or even faster charging?
Powerful components naturally require a certain amount of energy. In the realme GT 5, there’s a fairly large 5240 mAh battery. You can charge it halfway in just 7 minutes, thanks to the impressive 150 W fast charging capability. In the top-end version with 24 GB of RAM (raising the question, “who needs that much?”), the battery capacity is slightly lower (4,600 mAh), but the charging speed increases to 240 W.
The Chinese manufacturer claims that even after about four years of charging, the battery will still be in good condition. According to realme, even with the use of the highest 240 W charging speed, the battery will still have 80% capacity after 1600 charge cycles. These statistics should be taken into account by Samsung, as they offer 25 W charging in their top-end Galaxy S23. One of the reasons for this is to take care of battery life. Apparently, the Chinese have a completely different approach in this regard. Even in smartphones priced at around 1,000 Polish złotys, you’ll find fast charging with 50-770 W.
A superb AMOLED display
In such a great phone, which, thanks to its ultra-efficient components, can also serve as a gaming smartphone, it must feature an excellent display. The realme GT 5 has a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.5K (2772 x 1240 pixels) and a refresh rate of 144 Hz, making it a top-of-the-line screen. On top of this, the touch panel is very sensitive. Typically, smartphone manufacturers boast about touch sampling rates of 240 or 360 Hz, which are already good values. In the realme GT 5, the value is an impressive 2000 Hz!
The realme GT 5’s display provides full coverage of the DCI-P3 color palette, offers 1 billion colors, and supports HDR10+.
The maximum brightness is 1400 nits, although some competitors offer slightly better results. At the top of the screen, there is a 16 MP selfie camera, placed in a round cutout. At the bottom, there is, of course, an optical fingerprint scanner.
The new flagship realme
Multimedia capabilities are complemented by stereo speakers. Of course, you can also send audio wirelessly. This is made possible by Bluetooth 5.3 LE with A2DP and aptX HD codecs. As a result, you can expect very good sound quality and low latency in signal transmission.
A 50 MP Camera with Optical Lens Stabilization in the realme GT 5
In terms of photographic capabilities, the realme GT 5 lags behind the competition in the high-end segment. An interesting addition to the camera bump might be the four LEDs, which are great in terms of design. They can shine in 26 different colors and, for example, match their glow to the music being played. For taking photos, you’ll use a more conventional LED flash. The main lens has a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture, PDAF autofocus, and optical image stabilization. It works with a 50 MP sensor from Sony, the Sony IMX890, one of the best available on the market today.
The Sony IMX890 sensor is already known from phones like the OnePlus 11, the excellent Oppo Find X6 in terms of photography, or the Nothing Phone (2).
The realme GT 5
The second camera is 8 MP (wide-angle, 112 degrees), while the third is only 2 MP (for macro shots). This means that it lacks a telephoto lens or periscope lens, which most competitors offer. However, this is perhaps the only downside of the realme GT 5. The smartphone is noticeably more affordable than the flagship phones from Samsung, Xiaomi, or OnePlus, so the less extensive camera setup is one of the trade-offs.
The smartphone allows for recording 4K video at 60 frames per second with optical and electronic image stabilization. On the other hand, the front camera can only record 1080p video at 30 frames per second. It may not be the best choice for vloggers. A budget-friendly alternative would be the Infinix ZERO 30 5G, which has a 50 MP front camera with PDAF and the ability to record 4K video.
The realme GT 5’s price in China is so low that it’s hard to believe!
For now, the phone is not available in Europe or Poland. However, we do know the prices from the manufacturer’s domestic market. In China, the realme GT 5 is an impressively affordable smartphone considering what it offers!
Prices of the new realme smartphone in China:
- realme GT 5 12/256 GB costs 2999 yuan (approximately 1700 Polish złotys).
- realme GT 5 16/512 GB costs 3299 yuan (just over 1800 Polish złotys).
- realme GT 5 24 GB/1 TB costs 3799 yuan (around 2200 Polish złotys).
Smartphones in China are always much cheaper than in Europe. Even if we were to double the cost of purchasing the realme GT 5, it would still be very competitively priced.
